With student teacher
ratios of 4.5 to 1, Vanguard’s rigorous curriculum is based on a
developmental model and operates on a mastery criteria philosophy. As soon
as students master one instructional objective, they are moved to the
next.
At enrollment, students
are placed in the basic curriculum areas (reading, mathematics, and
written language) at their current level of functioning , regardless of
grade placement. Science and social studies objectives are chosen based on
age/grade placement.
Formal progress reporting
occurs every nine weeks in conjunction with parent conferences. Progress
reports indicate instructional objectives and the student's progress. In
middle and high school, numeric grades are also given.
In addition to progress
reports, individually administered and standardized achievement testing is
completed at the end of each academic year for all school students. |
